About Me

Nola Perez grew up on Amelia Island, Florida, then lived for twenty years in Atlanta, Georgia, where she was a member of Walter Griffin's Poet Studio. She has been awarded a grant from the Georgia Council of the Arts and two grants from the City of Atlanta, Bureau of Cultural Affairs. She was a finalist in 1993 for the National Poetry Series and in 1998 the runner-up in the Anhinga Press Florida Poetry Series. In 1997 She won the Robert Pen Warren First Poetry prize (Vermont).

While living in Paris, France from 1990-1994, she studied with Carolyn Kizer, Mary Jo Salter and Susan Ludvigson. When she returned to the States and settled in Miami, Florida, she studied with Andrew Glaze. She spent two years in Brussels, Belgium and now resides in Fernandina Beach, just off Amelia Island.
